Cost effectiveness
Optimum cost-value ratio

In sustainable building, lifelong building maintenance costs are as important as the cost of product manufacture and installation. In both ways, Sheerframe provides excellent value for money:
- cost effective to install
- proven low maintenance
- benefiting from a long life span – at least 35 years according to the BRE (Building Research Establishment).
Sheerframe is resource-efficient in its production and, most importantly, throughout its long life span a frame will maximise the energy retention within a building.
Table
30 year whole life NPV results*
The NPV for wood is 22% greater than that for UPVC for both Option A and B.
This is a result of both higher capital costs and maintenance costs.
| Option | NPV | wood NPV | UPVC |
| A: | 10 year programme of 500 units per annum | £13,281,300 | £10,899,100 |
| B: | 10 year programme of 5,000 units per annum | £132,813,400 | £108,991,100 |
*Source: Entec report commissioned by Manchester City Council. The whole life costs of the wood and UPVC windows have been examined. This has entailed a net present value (NPV) assessment. The NPV has been based on capital and maintenance costs for the whole life of the profiles of 30 years.
