Sheerframe window and door fabricator Wakefield Metroglaze has helped to transform a nursery school building into a new learning environment that will also provide a facility for the local community. Sheerframe PVC curtain walling and doors have been fitted to the existing nursery school premises at Havercroft Junior & Infants School in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, as part of an ongoing maintenance and refurbishment programme. Rob Smith, Fabrication Manager at Wakefield Metroglaze said: “The nursery used to be a separate building but it has now been updated and linked to the main school building. The improved premises now mean that the school can be used by the whole community – as a resource centre, crèche and children’s centre. The refurbished school is fantastic and is a truly multi-use environment. The buildings have a lot demanded of them and are now flexible enough to meet the wide variety of users.” Steve Whewall, Project Manager, NPS North East Property Consultants said: “The existing building consisted of composite timber infill panels fixed between timber posts and ply beams, and a flat felt roof. The timber infill panels were removed, leaving the existing structure intact, and replaced with pre-fabricated curtain walling panels designed to increase the structural stability of the existing structure, improve thermal insulation and match the original fenestration. The pre-fabricated units ensured that they could be installed in a co-ordinated, efficient manner and in a relatively short period of time.” Wakefield Metroglaze has completed several projects at Havercroft School in recent years including the replacement of timber windows with Sheerframe PVC windows in the main school building.
