Zero carbon schools

Revolutionary window technology for low carbon design

Coloured windows

With the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) committed to making all schools ‘zero carbon’ by 2016, Sheerframe windows offer architects a realistic solution for achieving this goal.

While some new energy efficiency technologies still need to prove themselves in widespread use and in the longer term, Sheerframe’s technology is here today and has been used extensively in UK schools, colleges and universities for more than 25 years.

Exceptional thermal performance

Sheerframe windows offer exceptional thermal performance, air tightness and excellent environmental ratings, which ensures they can play a key role in Zero Carbon School design.

Using the ground-breaking Sheerframe HED (Homogenous Energy Dynamics) system, which is now available from L.B. Plastics, architects can ensure minimal heat loss through their windows thanks to the system’s ability to deliver U-values as low as 0.8W/m2K.

The sustainable window and door solution

This outstanding thermal performance is combined with Sheerframe’s first-rate sustainability credentials including:

  • PVC windows environmentally rated A+ overall in BRE Green Guide to Specification.
  • Manufactured in resource-efficient, ISO14001 registered production facilities.
  • Long service life of at least 35 years (BRE certified) with little or no maintenance.
  • Completely free of lead stabilisers, unlike the majority of PVC window systems.
  • UK-made and supplied via local companies: fabricated and installed wherever possible using local Sheerframe approved companies – providing valuable local jobs and supporting the local economy – see our nationwide network here.
